First a few comments about Confronting the Evidence: the event was arranged on short notice, only three weeks, and so was a bit rough around the edges. There were a lot of technical glitches, especially with the audio in the first half, and a long delay in getting the computer booted up for my presentation (which Christopher Bollyn, a last-minute addition to the panel, filled in with an excellent discussion of the site "cleanup" and molten metal anomalies). My own involvement began only about a week in advance, and there was only time for me to put together a verbal presentation without the supporting graphics that I would have very much liked to include. Last minute additions to the panels limited me to a 10-12 minute presentation anyway, which would not have left room for a meaningful analysis of photos or videos along with a discussion of the limitations of the collapse models which was the core of my presentation. An edited video of the conference should be available in the next week or so, through http://www.summeroftruth.org/ .

Three years after the collapse of the World Trade Center we are still offered little more than a hodge-podge of "working hypotheses" for the collapses of WTC 1, 2 and 7, all of them dependent on unrealistic assumptions about extremely hot fires that essentially melted vertical columns. I will discuss these in more detail later on, but the significant point - the rabid elephant in the living room so to speak - is the astonishing fact that a decision was made early on to remove and recycle almost all the debris as quickly as possible.
With the irrevocable loss of almost all the physical evidence, any pretense of being able to conduct a meaningful forensic engineering investigation vanishes for ever. Out of the hundreds of thousands of pieces of debris from the collapses, only some 240 were saved, and even these have been subjected to only limited analysis. Even in much smaller disasters, for example in most airplane crashes, every possible piece of wreckage is recovered and preserved, and as detailed as possible a reconstruction of the entire structure is painstakingly assembled. This is the true gold standard for failure analysis, and there can simply be no legitimate reason for not applying the same standard of rigor to the unprecedented collapses at the WTC.
The first chapter of Eric Hufschmid’s book “Painful Questions” offers a more detailed discussion of this extraordinary scrubbing of the crime scene. See also: http://911research.wtc7.net/talks/wtc/evidencecleanup.html
A controlled demolition on this scale would of course imply the existence of a powerful and well-connected group of insiders with access to the buildings over a period of time, and with the motivation to risk such an audacious act. And most important of all, they would have to be situated in enough positions of power and authority to ensure that there could be no real forensic analysis of the collapses, a task that as we have seen was well and truly accomplished.
Applying the traditional investigative test of "Qui bono?" to the events of 9-11, some key figures certainly spring forth, even to the most trusting mind, as being worthy of further attention. These particular people have shown no reluctance to exploit their "good fortune" for financial and political gain, implicitly trading on the great losses of so many others with no hint of modesty or regret, and at the same time were ideally situated to squelch any real investigation of the events that so benefited them.
